Berhampur is also called ‘The Silk City’. It is located on the eastern coast of the Ganjam District. The city, famous for its silk, temples and culture, is the oldest and largest cities of Orissa. It is the most populous city the state and also has corporation status.
Gopalpur is a beach located 16 km from the city and it is a heaven for sun and sand lovers. This beach was a busy seaport at one time the ruins of the jetty can be found here. There are many buses which run from Old Bus Stand to Goplapur. If you have your own vehicle, you can drive up to Gopalpur. At one time, Gopalpur was a busy tourist destination.
Near Berhampur, there is also one of the oldest pilgrimage places of India.
