Itanagar is a hill resort as well as the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. The virginal beauty of the place attracts tourists from far and away. Itanagar has the mighty Himalayas on one side and the Brahmaputar River on the other side.  The city is named after the Ita-fort which was built in the 15th century.  There is a Buddhist shrine in Itanagar, called Buddha Vihar. The temple is located amongst beautiful gardens and has a yellow roof.


The legendary Ganga Lake in Itanagar is a good recreational place and one of the most popular places in Itanagar. The view of this lake is always picture perfect. The fort of Itanagar is called the Ita Fort. It was constructed in the 14th century.

 

The Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Museum is also another interesting place the city has to offer, because it has woodcarvings, musical instruments, ceremonial objects, weapons and traditional textiles. The articles displayed in the museum throw light on the lifestyle of the tribal people in the area.
