Junagadh literally means ‘Old Fort’. Junagadh is a municipal corporation and the headquarters of the Junagadh District. The city of Junagadh is situated at the foot of the Girnar Hills.


Somnath is situated at Prabhaspatan in Junagadh District. This place is located 79 km form Junagadh city and it has one of the 12 Jyotirlings of Lord Shiva. This temple is known as ‘the Shrine Eternal’, because even after being destroyed 6 times, it was rebuilt every time.

 

Girnar is a mountain, situated 6 km away from Junagadh. It has 5 main peaks and it covers an area of about 10 km. The 3rd peak is the highest, with an altitude of 3,661 ft. There is a staircase made to go up the hills. Uperkot is a beautiful Jain temple, built on one of the hills.
