Kullu is one of the best tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh. It is divided into two parts by the river Sarvari. The Raghunath Temple in Kullu is a prominent temple. The Dusshera festival is celebrated on a huge scale in Kullu; over 30,000 devotees descend to Kullu during this grand celebration. Over 200 idols of Raghunath or Lord Ram are paraded around the town is beautifully decorated chariots.
There are several other important temples in the surrounding hills of Kullu which are accessible by taxi or local bus. Just 3 kilometers from Kullu is the Bhekhli Temple, it offers spectacular view of the valley. 11 kilometers southeast of Kullu is the Bijleshwar Mahadev temple, you need to take a 3 kilometer trek from Chansari. This Mahadev is surmounted by 20 meter wide wooden pole that attracts divine blessings in the form of lightening. The power shatters the stone Shiva lingam which is then glued back with butter.Rafting on the Beas River is possible in the months of April, May and June.
