Mahabaleshwar, a Fine Hill Station - by Deepdas Gupta Dated : 2012-02-27
Mahabaleshwar is not just another hill station in the Sahyadris, it’s the best. Before going to there for the first time, I was wondering why it is so popular but after going there, I realized why.

Mahabaleshwar has become very commercialized. Therefore it is crowded on weekends, so I suggest that you should visit it on weekdays. Mahabaleshwar is famous for its strawberries, so when you go there you should try strawberry cream. You should visit the Mapro gardens and have the various strawberry delicacies.

Mahabaleshwar has an excellent climate, so I was ecstatic when I reached there. On a clear day, you can visit the various points there and get panoramic views. Mahahbaleshwar is a 6 hour drive from Mumbai, through Pune.

A good view of the mountains, deep valleys and water bodies is offered by the various points in Mahabaleshwar. The points around the Arthur Seat are particularly nice. At 1429 m, Wilson Point is the highest point. Connaught Point is the second highest and less visited point. An old British staircase through the forest is offered by this point. Mahabaleshwar has an old world charm and it brings down the pace of life a few notches. You should visit this hill station.
Mahabaleshwar, a Strawberry Delight - by Tushar Kulkarni Dated : 2012-02-24
Mahabaleshwar is a perfect weekend getaway for Mumbaikars. It is situated 285 Kms away from Mumbai. Mahabaleshwar was the summer Capital during the British rule. It is a lovely place which transforms you into another world.

Your visit to this place will be incomplete if you don’t visit Panchgani, which is situated 19 Kms away. Panchgani is known for its famous 60 m high table land, which offers a panoramic view.

One must not miss the picturesque Venna Lake in Mahabaleshwar, where boating can be enjoyed. Adjacent to this lake is the Paratapsingh Park, which is a playing zone for children. The strawberry farm is a delight and you must buy strawberries, jams, crushes and honey here. Another must-visit destination is the Mapro farms. It is famous for its yummy delicacies. Mahabaleshwar is a perfect place for honeymooners.

A good forest cover is the speciality of Mahabaleshwar. It is fun to drive on the unspoilt roads and explore the walking paths in the forest, in the off-season. We had heard that Mahabaleshwar is commercialized, but after going there we realized that this is not completely true. Mahabaleshwar is undoubtedly Maharashtra’s finest hill station. Its pleasant weather and varied yummy delicacies will definitely prove to be a treat.
Mahabaleshwar, nicer than we expected - by Pravin Shere Dated : 2012-02-23
Mahabaleshwar has a good forest cover. In the off-season, it is fun to drive on the unspoilt roads and explore the several walking paths in the forest. Before going to Mahabaleshwar, we had heard that it is commercialized but after going there we realized that this is not completely true.

The various points in Mahabaleshwar offer good views of the mountains, deep valley and water bodies. We particularly liked the points around Arthur Seat. Wilson Point is the highest point at 1429 m. The second highest and less visited point is Connaught Point. It has an old British staircase through the forest.

Lodwick Point overlooks the picturesquely winding Fitzgerald ghat (hilly road). Pratapgadh is a fort on Fitzgerald ghat which also has a handicrafts centre. Tapola is another place on the shores of the Koyna Lake, which can be accessed from a ghat. Boating can be done here.

When we were in Mahabaleshwar, a lot of guides approached us in the market place. Their rates were reasonable but we decided not to take a guide as we didn’t want to rush from one point to the other. Instead we wanted to roam about at leisure.

Mahabaleshwar, with its many attractions and pleasant weather is a place which should be visited.
