Mangalore is the port city of Karnataka. It is named after the Goddess Mangaladevi. It lies around 350 kilometers to the west of the state capital Bengaluru. It is one of the fastest developing cities of India and is also called as the ‘Cradle of Education’ in Karnataka. It is the gateway to Karnataka.


There are many temples and churches in Mangalore. The worth seeing temples are- the Mangaladevi Temple, Carstreet VenkatramanaTemple, Kateel Durgaparameshwari , Kudroli Gokarnatha Temple, Kardi Murudeshwara Temple, Urwa Marigudi and the Sharavu Ganapathi Temple. Mangalore also has many beautiful beaches like- Someshwar Beach(11 km north), Tannirbhavi Beach(10 km north), Kaup Beach(45 km north), Malpe Beach(60 km north) and Suratkal Beach(15 km north). Local express trains or buses can take you to the beaches. The St. Aloysius Chapel is a Sistine chapel in Mangalore that is worth a visit apart from the Milagres Church.

 

Shreemanthi Bai Memorial Government Museum is a museum that is worth a browse while Sultan’s Battery is the only remnant of the fort of Tipu Sultan. Mangalore is a good tourist destination.
