The Mudumalai National Park is situated on the Nilgiri Hills. It is the westernmost part of Tamil Nadu and has now been declared a Tiger reserve.


There are many park attractions, such as the Moyar River, which is a place where many animals come to drink water. The Moyar falls is a roaring waterfall in the park. The Elephant Safari and Van Safari are arranged by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and start from the park headquarters at Theppakadu.


There is also an Elephant Feeding Camp in the park where elephants are fed and trained. This is also a conservation activity for elephants which is open for public viewing. Elephants in this camp are engaged for eco-tourism and patrolling against poaching.

 

Kallatty are beautiful falls, located 30 km from Theppakadu. These falls offer a breathtaking view.

Mudumalai By Bus

A number of buses plying on the Ooty-Mysore highway that runs through the sanctuary connect it with other major neighbouring cities in and around Tamil Nadu. The nearest bus stand is located at Gudalur, at a distance of 16 km from the sanctuary.

Speciality(Famous for):

It’s a Tiger reserve. Endangered Indian elephants, vulnerable Gaur and Chital are also found here. The sanctuary is a haven for Bengal Tigers and Indian Leopards and other threatened species. There are at least 266 species of birds in the sanctuary, including critically endangered species like the Indian White-Rumped Vulture and the Long-Billed Vulture.
