The city of Mysore in Karnataka has a great climate and rich heritage. It is famous for silk, sandalwood, traditional paintings and incense production. It was named after the mythical place Mahisuru, where Goddess Chamundi is known to have slain the demon Mahishasura. The festival of Dusshera is celebrated here with great fervor and tourists throng Mysore during this period.

 

The main tourist attractions in Mysore are- the Ambavilas Palace(Mysore Palace), the Jagmohan Palace, the Jayalakshmi Vilas and the Lalitha Mahal. The Chamundeshwari Temple on the Chamunda Hills and St. Philomena’s Church are prominent religious places in Mysore. Apart from these spots there is a zoo, the Mysore Zoo, the lakes Karanji and Kukkarahalli, the museums- Regional Museum of Natural History, Folklore Museum, Railway Museum, Oriental Research Institute and the Wax Museum -‘Melody World’ which attract a lot of tourists.
