Shimla is a cool city to visit during the hot summers of the Indian plains and get some relief from the increasing heat. The most visited tourist spots in Shimla are the Himachal State Museum and Library, the Christ Church, the Jakhu Temple and historic buildings like the Town Hall and the Rothney Castle.
The Himachal State Museum and Library has an impressive collection of Kangra and Mughal miniatures, coins and jewelry, temple carvings, some paintings of Shimla, Chamba embroidery and weapons like massive blunderbusses. It is thrilling to visit this museum.
The Christ Church has a huge touch of British architecture to it. It is the second oldest Church in northern India. It contains some British Raj era memorials and stained glasses. The Jakhu temple is the most famous temple in Shimla and is dedicated to the monkey god, Hanuman. Many monkeys can be seen loitering here, harassing devotees for Prasad. You can reach this temple by taking pony rides. Ice skating is also a popular activity during winters.
