The Jim Corbett National Park has a wide variety of mammals, birds and reptiles. It also consists of different tree species. This National Park is a part of the Project Tiger Movement. This jungle is the first Park to come under it as the Jim Corbett National Park is home to the Bengal Tiger of India. The grasslands, hills and the large lake of the forest, make it a major attraction for adventure lovers.

About 70,000 Indian and foreign tourist visit the park, every season. Corbett Park is India’s oldest National Park. The Park is spread over an area of 521 square kilometres. The monsoon months in the Park are from July to September. However, the ecological balance of the jungle is getting affected by the huge number of tourists.

The rich flora cover that this Park has is almost incomparable. The trees are the densest in the Sal Forest and the least dense in the Anogeissus-Acacia Catechu Forests.

The Bengal Tiger is the highlight of the fauna in the Park. Although the Tiger population in the Park is good, sightings are not very common because of the camouflage in the Park. The Tiger population in the Park is more because of the easy availability of prey. Although buffaloes and elephants are much larger than a Tiger, the Tigers in the forest are known to feast on them. The Tigers in the jungle feed upon domestic animals when there is shortage of prey.

The Leopards are found in the hilly region of the Park, but they are also found in the low lands. Summer is the time to spot herds of about a hundred Elephants. Breeding of Crocodiles was carried out in the forest. The fatal Indian Python is also found in the Park. The increased population of Crocodiles was then found in the Ramganga River in the National Park.

Dhikala is a well-known destination in Jim Corbett National Park. It is situated close to the Patli Dun Valley. There is a very old rest house here. One can get a spectacular view of the valley from the Kanda Ridge. This ridge also is in the backdrop.

The Elephant Safaris in the National Park are a major tourist attraction, as they offer a chance to view the diverse wildlife of the Park. The Safaris start early in the morning or in the late afternoon. You will feel like a royal when you hoist yourself on top of an Elephant and enjoy watching the wild Elephants and Tigers in the dense jungles or the grasslands.

Due to the chilled winters, tourists should make sure that they carry a lot of warm clothes. Walking in the jungle is not allowed, but one can go for a trek with a registered guide. For those who are interested in bird watching, the Kalagarh Dam is the best place. The Kalagarh Dam lies in the south west direction of the National Park. Many migratory birds can be spotted here.

Discover the thrilling Jim Corbett National Park which offers a huge treasure of natural wealth which cannot be surpassed.

An Amazing trip to Jim Corbett - by Roshan Gulati Dated : 2011-12-15
Our trip to Jim Corbett National Park was a surprise I had planned for my friend. He loves to visit wildlife sanctuaries so I thought I should take him to Jim Corbett. It was a very memorable trip for us. We left for Jim Corbett from Delhi and we reached Corbett in 7 hours because we went by our own car. We were very excited about spotting a tiger in the wild, and wanted to take as many pictures as we could. We had gone to Jim Corbett in May, a time when we could actually spot a tiger without having to wait too long. As we explored the forest, we saw chitals, spotted deer, sambhars and a bear. Finally, we spotted a tiger, almost after 3 hours of exploration. The guide who was with us said the monkey calls helped them to know where the tiger was. But we could just catch a glimpse of the beast, it vanished behind the woods. The next day we went for a trekking expedition. We had to compulsorily hire a certified guide to set foot in the forest. It was a very thrilling experience. We spotted many birds and took too many photos. My friend was delighted that we could see wildlife conserved so properly at Corbett. It was a great relief for us as we could take a break from our busy lives.
